The agent you choose can change what you pay, what you buy and how stressful the process feels. Before you sign anything, ask these questions.
Ask about experience that matches your goal
- Have they helped buyers with your type of purchase: first home, fixer-upper, rental or flip?
- Do they understand renovation loans, cash offers or creative financing if you want those options?
- Do they know the neighborhoods you are considering?
Ask how they find the true value
Look for an agent who compares recent sales, estimates repair costs and explains the reasoning. If an agent cannot tell you why a home is worth the asking price, keep looking.
Ask how they communicate
How fast do they return calls? How will they update you during negotiation and inspection? You will be making big decisions on a tight schedule, so you want someone who is easy to reach.
Ask what the agreement says
Read any buyer representation agreement carefully. Ask about the length, the fee and how you can end it. Your questions should be answered clearly and without pressure.
